Germany's Defence Minister Ursula von Leyen had refused to wear a hijab during an official visit to Saudi Arabia, asserting that "women should be allowed to dress as they choose".

Meanwhile, German Chancellor Angela Merkel has been calling for a ban on burqas in Germany.

Many have highlighted that Ursula's statement contradicts with that of her Chancellor Angela Markel as Markel calls for a ban on burqas while burqa is a part of Muslim women's dress that they have chosen to wear.

If Ursula asserts that women should be allowed to dress as they choose, then there is no reason for her Chancellor Angela Markel to call for a ban on burqas because it will result in restricting some women from using the dress of their choice.
